It's because software becomes more demanding. Laptops and PCs and phones don't become 'old' and 'obsolete' because they stop working. But if it did die in 2 then it's a defect. So two different laptops of the same model coming from the same factory can have different lives - one can live for 50 years, another will die in 2. But it's more a case of a manufacturing defect. There's also a lottery, if there is a bad resistor somewhere it can blow up and bring down the whole motherboard with it or something like that. Except for moving parts, fans and HDDs can wear out but they can also be replaced. So technically it will take decades for a laptop to start failing due to 'wear'. Yes there is a case of pathways on PCBs slowly degrading over time, but that's negligible. Electronic devices (laptops included) don't wear out, they don't just 'burn out' like light bulbs. What's important to understand is that there's is no hard lifetime limit to electronics. If the CPU and GPU don't get any power it will perform worse then a lower model that was cheaper, but has a proper power supply. And always look at what kind of power supply the laptop has and how much watt it can draw. Find what other people is buying the most and look more for mid range. That fo rendering videos and gaming, if somebody comes to visit.Īnd as a tip from me the most expensive is not always the best. Therfore i am going to be building probably a desktop and have the laptop running as editing rigs. Tho the latest one being the predator laptop is starting to get som hickups. I have a laptop from 2014, 2018, 2019 that still works. After 4-5 years it will be outdated, but will work for at least 10-12 years with proper maintenance. As long as you clean dust and change out thermalpaste once in a while it will run good until it gets outdated by future technologies that you can't do anything about. It has lasted me since beginning of 2019. I have top of the line predator laptop that has been in with heavy work almost 24/7 and with good maintenance.

Never had issues or anything major, until a windows 10 update came along this year and driver-bricked my 7970m. Well listen, I had a non-brand (sager/clevo) machine with a 3rd gen i7 and a 7970m (2012 gpu) that played everything i wanted it to for 9 years - from BF4 and r6 siege 1080p max settings and 60+ fps, to tw3 max on 1080p for 30-40 (still better than a ps4).
